Course Objectives

1. Have the ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to understand the measurement techniques and equipment used in land surveying. 2. To enable students to understand theory and practice of land surveying. 3. To enable students in reading and preparing surveying maps. 4. To develop skills to use modern survey instruments.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

CLO:1            Gain the ability to use modern survey equipment to measure angles and distances.

CLO:2            Gain a basic understanding of the principles and operation of the global positioning system.

CLO:3            Gain the ability to measure differences in elevation, draw and utilize contour plots.

CLO:4            Appreciate the need for accurate and thorough note taking in field work to serve as a legal record.

Course Contents

To measure the bearing of traverse lines, calculation of included angles and check.

To study the essential parts of auto level & reduction of levels.

To Study fly, differential, profile & Check leveling.

To study and use the plane table survey by radiation and intersection method.

To measure direct angle, deflection angle & magnetic bearing of line using thedolite.

To measure horizontal and vertical angle between two points using theodolite.

To measure horizontal angle by repetition & group of angle in a horizon i.e. reiteration.

To determine distance and reduce level of elevation point by Tachometric observations.
