Course Objectives

1. To equip students with knowledge related to road system, highway engineering and traffic engineering. 2. To equip students with knowledge related to highway design (geometric and pavement design) manually and using software.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

CLO:1           Have knowledge about to road system, highway and traffic engineering.

CLO:2           Be able to perform geometric and pavement design.

CLO:3          Have sufficient knowledge about use of software for geometric and pavement design.

Course Contents

To perform penetration test on given bitumen/asphalt samples.

To determine ductility of bitumen/asphalt.

To determine softening point of bitumen/asphalt.

To determine flash and fire point of bitumen/asphalt.

To determine velocity of bitumen/asphalt by velocity test.

To determine marshal stability and flow test of bitumen and mixtures.

To find the level of service and signal timing for an intersection.

Study of horizontal, vertical, transition curves and super elevation.

Non-destructive testing of pavements.

Site visit for study of pavement (flexible and rigid) failure.

Design of flexible pavement using software.

Design of rigid pavement using software.

Study of traffic flow using software.
