ASME CAD Competition - 2015
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Section at Capital University of Science and Technology Islamabad organized “ASME CAD Competition - 2015” on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in CAD Lab, E-Block. Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of different software on computer systems to assist the creation, modification, analysis and optimization of a design. CAD software are used to increase the productivity and quality of a design. CAD is a crucial industrial tool extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, aerospace and architectural design, and many more.
The contest was open to all students enrolled in Capital University of Science and Technology. The organizing team consisted of Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Junaid, Ali Ijaz Khattak, Sibtain Haider and Muneeb-ul-Hassan, all students of BS (ME) and members of ASME. The event was supervised by ASME Student Section Advisor, Engr. Saif Ullah and Engr. Abdul Wahab was the competition judge. Contestants were asked to prepare a 3D drawing of a given model in a given time of one hour. University has licensed Creo ® and AutoCAD 2015® software to facilitate students. Competitors were given choice to use any of these software.
Thirty five contestants participated in this competition and the following competitors were declared winners by the judge;
- Mr. Ihsan Yaseen, BS (ME) - 1st Position
- Mr. Jamal ul Din, BS (ME) - 2nd Position
- Mr. Muhammad Fahad Akhter, BS (ME) - 3rd Position
Dean Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Amir Qayyum distributed the shields and Dr. Saif Ur Rahman, Head of Department (Mechanical Engineering) distributed the certificates amongst the winners. Mr. Abdul Ghafoor, President ASME Student Section presented a brief note about this annual ASME competition. Refreshments were arranged for all the participants and organizers at the end of the competition.
Mr. Asad, Academic Officer (ME) provided assistance for the successful organization and Mr. Wahab Mehmoob provided the IT support for this event.
