Course Objectives

Part II: A capstone project or a senior year design project is conducted at the end of the Bachelor of Engineering degree plan. It is divided into two semesters. Its objective is to introduce students to work on an industrial nature project through which they can build their expertise in Mechanical Engineering at the professional level. It may consists of application to industry or solving industrial problem or creation of an idea that may lead to a product development through prototyping and must have some level of research content. Moreover, it may have a multidisciplinary approach.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

  1. CLO-1: Identify, formulate and provide creative, innovative and effective solutions to Mechanical engineering problems.(Problem Analysis)
  2. CLO-2: Learn the engineering design cycle and apply knowledge to design solutions, systems, components and processes in order to meet specified requirements efficiently. (Design, development of solutions)  
  3. CLO-3: Analyze engineering data critically and through systematic investigations, make conclusions and recommendations for performance improvement of systems. (Investigation)
  4. CLO-4: Exhibit working knowledge of design and computational tools as well as instrumentation and measurement tools for development and processing industry.

    Course Contents

    Final year project assessment will include the group members work progress through meetings and presentations. Project members will meet once every two weeks with their supervisor to discuss progress on project tasks and milestones set for the project. Project supervisors will grade performance of group members based on their accomplished milestones. Each project group will submit progress reports as mentioned below. Progress report must be duly signed and graded by the supervisor.

    At the end of each semester all project groups give project demos and present their work. A panel of faculty members evaluates and grade projects. Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes an annual Industrial Open house for final year projects, where people from industry are invited. A panel of renowned personalities from industry evaluates selected student projects and top three projects are selected.

    It is made mandatory that each group must submit its project report at the time of project presentations and demonstrations. For part II, the group must submit its project report in hard binding on given project report template. Project reports are checked for plagiarism. Similarity index of plagiarism in the project report cannot be more than 20%.
