The purpose of this laboratory course is to give students experience with the scientific investigation of human physiological processes. Students will measure the ways in which the body responds to varying stimuli and observe how those responses contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis. The labs are not only designed to support physiological concepts learned in lecture, but to demonstrate the process of scientific investigation as well.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)
CLO: 1. Discuss principles, theory and methods of testing physiological parameters of blood, respiratory system and cardiovascular system.
CLO: 2. Perform independently laboratory testing of physiological parameters of blood, respiratory system and cardiovascular system.
CLO: 3. Analyze the given data, plot graphs and interpret results.
NOTE: Practicals of the subject shall be designed from time to time on the basis of the abovementioned theoretical topics and availability of the facilities, e.g. Experimental Physiology includes_
- Determination of Haemoglobin (Hb), Determination of ESR, RBC Count, WBC Count, DLC (Differential Leucocyte Count), Bleeding Time, Coagulation Time and Blood groups.
- Estimation of vital capacity and its relation to posture and standard vital capacity, Determination of Tidal volume and Demonstration of Artificial Respiration
- Recording of Arterial Pulse, Recording of Arterial Blood Pressure and Electro-cardiogram
