Workshop on “Web Mining and Semantics”.

Centre for Distributed and Semantic Computing (CDSC) at Department of Computer Science, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Islamabad organized a workshop “Web Mining and Semantics”. This was hands-on session conducted in the Operating System Lab at M.A.J.U. The workshop was attended by more than 50 participants belonging to diversified organizations of academia and industry. Dr. Muhammad Tanvir Afzal, coordinator of the workshop warmly welcomed all of the participants. Subsequently, Dean Faculty of Computing, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir addressed the ceremony. Then all participants were taken to the lab for hands-on experience on different tools.

The following sessions were conducted in the lab as per the program.
    • Web Crawling – Tools used: Open Web Crawler, Sphinx Crawler, MongoDB
    • Indexing and similarity computation – Tools used: Lucene 4.8.1 and different similarity measuring techniques such as: TF-IDF, vector space model, cosine similarity
    • RDF & Triplification – tools used Topbraid Composer Maestro edition
                                                                                • Query Semantic Web with SPARQL - Tools used Virtuoso with DBPedia endpoint

At the end of the workshop Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir and Dr. Muhammad Tanvir Afzal appreciated the participants for sparing a weekend for this workshop. Shields were presented to the presenters and certificates were given to all participants by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir and Dr. Muhammad Tanvir Afzal. The participants provided useful feedback about the workshop.
