Dr Syeda Marriam Bakhtiar, PhD in Human Molecular Genetics, has expertise in the domain of human genetic disorders and molecular mechanisms governing the onset of these diseases. She exploits molecular genetics, translational research, and computational biology approaches to explore the genetic and molecular mechanisms responsible for these diseases. She has also worked on the exploration of host-pathogen interactions with a special focus on Gut Microbiome. She has published more than 60 research publications and has presented her work at various national and international conferences. She has more than 90 impact factor with 1116 citations. Her h-index of 20 and i-10 index of 26 shows that her work is well recognized in the research fraternity. She has contributed to various book chapters and edited a book on “Omics Technologies for Clinical Diagnosis”.

Our research uses Molecular and Computational biology approaches to understand the complexities of inherited genetic diseases, their characterization at the molecular level, and strategies for control and prevention. We are also interested in infectious diseases, causative microbes, and corresponding immune responses by the host. Our research group also works on the application of Bioinformatics and Computational biology approaches to analyze and interpret the vast amount of genomic data available on public databases and utilization of this data for its full potential to progress our scientific understanding focused on health and disease.
