The course pharmaceutical microbiology and immunology is designed to provide a fundamental background and opportunity to the students where they should be able to thoroughly understand and explain the microbiology and immunology of various microbes with the addition of pathological, diagnostic and industrial aspects of important microorganisms and pharmacological agents such as antibiotics, as well as vaccines and other agents which are used to control infectious microorganisms.

CLO: 3. To Apply the foundational knowledge of microorganisms to address and to coup their pathological consequences

- GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY:
- Historical Introduction, Scope of Microbiology with special reference to Pharmaceutical Sciences. Nomenclature and classification of Micro-organisms.
- The Bacteria: General and cellular Morphology, structure and function. Classification of Bacteria. Growth curve, growth factors and growth characteristics. Nutrition Requirements and Nutrition factors affecting growth. Culture Media, Bacterial cultures and staining methods
- The Viruses: Introduction, Classification (and detail of at least one species from every group), cultivation and replication
- The Fungi/Yeast/Molds
- The Protozoa
- Microbiology of air, water and soil (general introduction and normal inhibitants of air, water and soil)
- Normal flora of Skin, Intestinal tract, Ear, Nose etc
