Office of Reasearch Innovation and Commercialization Held Two Days Hand-on Workshop on SPSS

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized “Two-Days Hands-on Workshop on SPSS” on 06th-07th February, 2023 in Instructions Lab-3, F-Block. The purpose of the workshop was to equip participants with the most updated knowledge about statistical/quantitative analysis using SPSS with practical illustrations.

SPSS is one of the most widely available/powerful statistical software packages that covers a broad range of statistical procedures and allow researcher to summarize data (compute means and standard deviations), determine significant differences between groups (t-tests, analysis of variance), examine relationships among variables (correlation, multiple regression), and graphical presentation of data. Some of the key topics covered in the workshop were:

1. Data Entry: Manually and from Excel
2. Editing and Organizing Datasets
3. Data Transformations
4. Descriptive Statistics
5. Graphical Displays
6. Procedures for Exploring Relationships
7. Simple & Multiple linear Regression Analyses
8. Mediation and Moderation Analyses

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Omaid Ghayyur (CS Department, CUST), who is a certified expert in SPSS. The workshop participants included students from Biosciences/Management Sciences/Computer Science Departments and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE). The response of participants was quite promising and workshop proved to be a great source of hands-on knowledge to the participants.
