Performance Based Seismic Evaluation, Vibration Control and Seismic Risk Assessment Research Group
Department: Civil Engineering
Dr. Munir Ahmed
Designation: Head/Supervisor
Research group head Profile
Dr. Munir Ahmed, Associate Professor, CUST, did his Doctor of Structural Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in Year, 2011. His research area is performance based seismic evaluation, vibration control, and seismic risk assessment. He has so far 8 ISI Impact Factor Journal Publications and 8 International Conference Paper. He has been teaching various key Structural Engineering Courses such as Structural Analysis, Earthquake Engineering, Disaster Risk Assessment, Structural Dynamics, and Performance Based Seismic Design at Graduate and Undergraduate Level. In addition to teaching and research Experience of about 8 years in CUST, he has more than 12 years of experience in structural design of low, mid- and high-rise buildings both individually and in team lead capacity in NESPAK (Pakistan No. 1 consultancy) and in AIT consulting/Solutions (International Consultancy). The experience includes, Code based design of 29-Storied PTET, Tower (Pakistan), Code and performance-based design of 40 storied Central Embassy Building in Thailand (1st performance based designed building in Thailand), Code and performance-based design 40 storied precast pruksa building in Thailand, Code and performance-based design Code and performance-based design 50 Storied Green Residences building in Philippine, code and performance based design60 Storied BDO Tower in Philippine, Code and performance based design40 storied Langshan Tower in Thailand.
Introduction of the group
The safety and economy of the built-up infra structures and its revival during and after an earthquake event is of utmost importance. The importance economy increases further in case of developing countries. These parameters can be efficiently addressed to the stakeholder’s satisfaction using performance based seismic design and evaluation. However, there is significant research gap in performance based seismic design and evaluation, vibration control, seismic risk assessment. This group has been formed to bridge some of the research gaps to achieve safe and sustainable infrastructure.
