Dengue Awareness Walk
The Department of Pharmacy and Student Affairs office, Capital University of Science & Technology, organized a dengue awareness walk entitled “Let’s fight against dengue” on October 7, 2019 for the prevention of dengue fever. Dengue fever is a severe, flu-like illness caused by biting of a specific type of mosquito named Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus carrying virus for dengue fever. The mosquitoes are day-time feeder; their peak biting periods are early in the morning and in the evening before dusk. The symptoms of dengue fever include rapid onset of high fever (episodic), pain behind the eyes muscle, joint, bone pain, severe headache, weakness, vomiting, sore throat and a skin rash with red spots. The disease occasionally develops into a potentially lethal complication called Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, causing death in less than 1% of the infected individuals. The recent outbreak of dengue fever has affected the people of Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed, Vice Chancellor, led the walk. The participants of the walk included faculty members, staff and students. The participants held a banner, stating that prevention of stagnant water in our surrounding can prevent the growth of mosquitoes carrying virus for dengue fever. The Department of Pharmacy and student affairs office were thanked and acknowledged by the Vice Chancellor at the end of walk.
