Seminar on “Astrobiology and Extremophile Microbiology”
A seminar on “Astrobiology and Extremophile Microbiology” was organized by the Genix Society of Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Capital University of Science and Technology Islamabad, on October 17, 2019 at 11:00 A.M in Auditorium 1 under the supervision of Dr. Arshia Butt, Department of Biosciences.
Ms. Rida Fatima hosted the event. The program started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Ms. Aqsa Aftab followed by an introduction of the guest speaker. The guest speaker was Dr. Fariha Hasan, Professor of Microbiology, Quaid e Azam University Islamabad.
Dr. Fariha Hasan, started the seminar with a brief introduction of Astrobiology and Extremophiles. Further, she discussed about the possibilities of Life in outer space. The main aim of the seminar was to deliver the idea and knowledge about the vastness and immensity of the universe and to inform the students that there are planets besides earth which are habitable and suitable for the survival of life. The experiments being done on the extremophiles to check their survival rate on other planets were also discussed. Other than that, the conditions required for a certain extra-terrestrial body to be able to support life were also discussed. Overall the session was interactive, students showed quite an interest in the topic. Students asked questions to the guest speaker after the seminar ended. The seminar was a great source of information for the students.
The souvenir was presented to the guest speakers by, Dr. Arhsia Butt and Dr. Erum Dilshad. Hi-tea was served to the guest speaker and the faculty members in the staff room.
