Seminar on “Genomics Approach in Drug Designing”
Capital University of Science and Technology hosted a seminar entitled “Genomics Approach in Drug Designing” on 28th March 2019 in A-2 Auditorium. Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences organized the seminar aiming to equip faculty, researchers and students with the contemporary knowledge of Genomics and Drug Designing.
Genomics is an interdisciplinary field of biology focusing on the structure, function, evolution, mapping and editing of genomes. Genomics, particularly high-throughput sequencing and characterization of expressed human genes has created new opportunities for drug discovery. Knowledge of all the human genes and their functions may allow effective preventive measures and change drug research strategy & drug discovery development processes. Pharmacogenomics is the application of genomic technologies such as gene sequencing, statistical genetics and gene expression analysis to drugs in clinical development.
The participants of the seminar included faculty members, researchers and students of Biosciences and Pharmacy Departments. The guest speaker at the event was Dr. Johar Ali, Head of Genomics Center, Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar. At the end of session, the speaker was thanked and acknowledged with University memento by Dean Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization.
